NOW!
Watching Gothenburg-based SPIDERS’ video clip for “Hang Man” (available below) and all those things happening in such a tiny attic, I was stocked; these guys surely know how bluesy Retro Rock should sound, dealing with the perfect portions of Punk and, of course, psychedelia (the Orange amps in the background surely give a hint to the potential listener). So, what is Swedes’ music about leaving aside the enticing wrapping paper (including Ann-Sofie’s GIRLSCHOOL-esque vocal skills/beauty)?
Crusher Records is a solid guarantee as far as the Retro Rock releases are concerned, so seeing this specific label’s brand on the kickass debut’s cover artwork was one more reason for me to check “Flash Point” with wide open ears. This album contains 9 authentic Rock tracks, enhanced with a 70s approach that makes the entire result even more interesting/tempting. During an era where the female-fronted Retro Rock bands have kinda become a fashion trend, SPIDERS take the risk to present how they understand the revival of the 70s Rock movement by sometimes presenting their JEFFERSON AIRPLANE influences with a generousKARMADOZA-esque dose, and others, just by playing their favorite MOTÖRHEAD-driven tunes. In any case, Ann-Sophie and the boys have achieved to captivate our listening attention with a debut that pushes our expectations higher regarding the band’s next discographic step. Plus, I bet that the DEAD MAN’s debut must have had a couple or more spins on SPIDERS’s turntables after it was released, almost 7 years ago.
Just crank the volume up and listen to the album’s opener “Weekend Ends”, “Loss & Trouble” and “Above The Sky” and let your care-free spirit to run across green-grass meadows or brown-leaves forests (since autumn is here). SPIDERS are this year’s revelation and their Scandinavian bluesy Rock can’t actually wait to be spread and hit you hard. Well done, guys!
