2007 Thrill Pistol 320Tigertailz fans have been excited about this new 10 song CD, Thrill Pistol with disc two being Wazbonez ’92. I have to admit being a fan of cover art, this one didn’t get me very excited. The chick with the stick on Clint tattoo just doesn’t do it for me. But I’m a girl so what do I know about apparently hot chicks with fake tattoos. Anyway that is irrelevant because it’s the music that is the main thing.

On first listen I wasn’t that keen on this disc, but on the third spin I am actually liking it quite a bit. For me it’s a grow-on-you type album and not one I instantly liked. These seem to be Tigertaliz’s heavier songs to date. Kim Hooker’s vocals sound quite different in places which I’m not saying is a bad thing, just different. The first 6 songs are the strongest on here, although title track “Thrill Pistol” is quite a change in style after the first 3 songs, its almost honky tonk piano sounding, complete with female vocals (courtesy of the wonderful sounding Suzy Chunk), but it’s catchy and likeable even if its not what you expect after hearing the rest of this disc.

The two ballad type songs “Milez Away” and “Only You” are just plain weak and awful. But that might be because I’m just not a fan of ballads in general, unless its Great White! “Natural Born Animal” is my pick for the best track on here. It has the potential to become the new “Love Bomb Baby”.

I won’t comment on Wazbones ’92 too much, suffice to say it is a great album and probably superior to Thrill Pistol, so it’s a bonus and nice addition to get Wazbones thrown in with Thrill Pistol. Thrill Pistol is not brilliant but it is good heavy glam. Tigertaliz fans should be pretty happy with this release.
