In the same category as Richard Page & Steve George (PAGES, Mr. MISTER), Jay Graydon & Tommy Funderburk (AIRPLAY) or Tom Kelly & Billy Steinberg (i-TEN), you have the duo of Reed Nielsen and Mark Pearson and their teamwork was called “NIELSEN / PEARSON”. And yes, all are early ’80s Westcoast AOR outfits.
It started back in 1978 with the release of “The Nielsen Pearson Band”, but on this album the music is Country oriented. Both were session studio musicians as well, and there’s where they discover the new wave of American smooth Westcoast and the LA Session crew.
In 1980 they brought expert arranger Peter Wolf, David Foster, Vinnie Colaiuta, etc, into the studio to work on the second release. With the production of Richard Landis (Desmond Child & Rouge, Van Stephenson), the new songs were completely written & arranged into the studio.
Same year it was released the self-titled album ”NIELSEN / PEARSON”, a successful LP including the Top-40 song ‘If You Should Sail’ (still a classic on FM radio today).
This Vivid Sound Corporation remastered reissue released at the end of 2021 sounds fabulous, pristine and clear, to enjoy this elegant slice of classy Westcoast AOR from the golden age of the LA Session scene.
