Big Backyard was an alternative rock trio from Minneapolis, MN in the early 1990’s and featured Mark Wothe on guitar / lead vocals, Scott Gilpin on bass / backing vocals and Jeff Hamele on drums. The band was active from September 1991 to July 1994, regularly playing to full crowds at Minneapolis clubs such as The 400 Bar, The Uptown Bar, The Cabooze and First Avenue/7th St. Entry. Big Backyard thrived as a live band, drawing each night’s set list from a considerable catalogue of original music. Along the way, the band recorded 3 studio EP’s, which were primarily demos for record labels and never commercially released. Happy to Know You is a collection of 13 songs from those 3 studio sessions, which together showcase the wide mix of Big Backyard’s sound – ranging from jangly alt-pop, to straight-up alternative rock to Americana.
