Now we fulfill a cool request; ”Boy Meets Girl”, the 1985 debut album by American pop/rock singer-songwriters George Merrill & Shannon Rubicam, also known as BOY MEETS GIRL. Both have written songs for many pop-rock stars, and A&M saw potential in the duo as well.
While ”Boy Meets Girl” focus is essentially radio-friendly rock&pop, some tracks here have a strong melodic rock pulse driven by sharp guitars (the rhythm guitar work kills all over this disc!), while others are pure mid-Eighties AOR with an ‘action movie soundtrack’ anthemic delivery. Just listen ‘In Your Eyes’… this should have been in Top Gun or Iron Eagle!
It happens that ”Boy Meets Girl” was produced by genius Tom Werman (Dokken, Twisted Sister, Motley) and it doesn’t matters what kind of project he handles – the man always obtains a propulsive sonic attack. Add a selection of capable session musicians and you get a first class product here.
Also Hi-Tech / lite AOR fanatics will love this record (there’s a lot of synths, Simmons Drums, multi-layered vocal harmonies – you know the stuff). Simply put, if you love that mid-80s type of music ”Boy Meets Girl” is a must have in your collection.
Long time out of print fortunately ”Boy Meets Girl” was reissued in 2005 by A&M Records and in remastered form, now a rare and much sought after collectible CD.
